History of
The Buccaneer Room

  • History: Constructed in 1866 by John W. Jockusch, a prominent businessman and Prussian Consul to the Republic of Texas.

  • The Maceo Era: Owned in the 1920s by the legendary Maceo family, the building housed the "Maceo Fish and Oyster Company" and a bakery servicing their gambling enterprises.

  • Current Use: The building features retail on the first floor and two event spaces on the second floor: The Buccaneer Room (decorated with items from the former Buccaneer Hotel) and The Maceo Bakery (Converted into a bar/lounge area.

  • Architecture: It features a 5,000-square-foot exterior balcony, known as a prime viewing spot for Galveston's Mardi Gras festivities.
